Management Duo Embraces Motorsports Challenge
Made for Trade’s dedication to continuous improvement extends beyond the realm of fenestration products. In 2023, Managing Director Bradley Gaunt and Engineering Director Ashley Gaunt embarked on a new challenge. Competing in the Hagerty Radical Cup UK for the first time.
Applying Expertise to a New Arena
The Gaunt Brothers, known for their innovative spirit and technical prowess, channelled their drive into the competitive world of motorsport. They leveraged their sharp vision and engineering background to navigate the challenges of circuit racing, while simultaneously raising awareness of the Made for Trade and Korniche brands.
A Steep Learning Curve
The season kicked off at Donington Park, where the brothers experienced the high demands of racing first-hand. Akin to overcoming installation hurdles with inferior fenestration products, their initial races included learning the tracks, adapting to the powerful 185bhp machines, and navigating tough weather conditions.
Progress and Recognition
Despite starting at the back of the grid, the Gaunts displayed commendable progress throughout the season. They steadily improved their positions, not only within the novice category but also within their overall class. Their distinctive Made for Trade and Korniche liveries adorned the Radical SR1 cars, reflecting the company’s commitment to innovation and setting them apart on the track.
Collaboration Leads to Success
Throughout the year, the Gaunts benefited from the support of experienced professionals like North Motorsport, race car specialists and multi-time racer Simon Walker-Hansell. This collaboration, combined with their own dedication, resulted in tangible achievements. By season’s end, the Made for Trade office proudly displayed a collection of trophies earned by the brothers, signifying their success in their novice racing year.
Looking Ahead: Building on Success
Reflecting on the experience, Ashley Gaunt, Made for Trade Engineering Director, shared, “We started far behind, feeling out of our depth. However, racing alongside skilled drivers accelerated our learning and allowed us to compete for podium finishes. The experience of racing on a large stage is unforgettable.”
As Made for Trade enters its 40th year, the Gaunt brothers are poised to return for their second season in the Radical Cup UK. With their newfound skills and the lessons learned, they aim to build upon their 2023 success and lead the pack on the track.
